SBSR SENIOR LIVING - BANDUNG
Architecture Design - On Going Construction.
Location: Bandung, Indonesia.
Design: Akons Architects
Year: 2026
This senior living community is designed to bring residents back to the comfort of familiar daily life—where routines, memories, and independence are preserved. Inspired by the way seniors used to live, the environment encourages activity, social connection, and purpose, helping reduce the risk of early dementia while supporting a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle.
Architecturally, the project draws inspiration from "Bandung tempo dulu", reinterpreting the warmth and familiarity of old Bandung homes. The spaces are designed to feel homey, welcoming, and nostalgic, while remaining highly functional, airy, and naturally bright. Elements such as old terrazzo and tegel flooring, timber doors and windows, generous openings, and shaded verandas revive a sense of memory and comfort.
Residents are cared for within a vibrant community that offers spaces for hobbies, prayer, and everyday interactions.
Facilities such as mini markets, barber shops, floral arrangement studios, hydroponic farming areas, and health centers create opportunities to stay productive, engaged, and connected.
Natural lighting and cross ventilation are maximized throughout the development, creating a calm, healthy, and energy-efficient environment where seniors can live actively, comfortably, and with dignity.
The special feature in this building is the multifunctional hall.
It is designed as a flexible gathering space that can accommodate mass prayer, communal dining, celebrations, and special events. At its center, a sculptural crucifix becomes the spiritual focal point, illuminated through a poetic skylight that casts light in the form of a cross precisely at noon. Filled with natural light and generous ventilation, the space balances sacred atmosphere with everyday functionality, allowing it to serve both community life and moments of worship.
This project is also a missionary initiative by a nun’s order, integrating spiritual life within the community. It includes dedicated prayer rooms designed with abundant natural light to create peaceful and uplifting spaces, as well as dormitories for postulants and aspirants who support and participate in the daily life of the community.
A dedicated common area is provided for the nuns as a serene communal space for study, worship, prayer, meditation, and gathering. Designed with abundant natural light and generous cross ventilation, the space feels calm, open, and contemplative while supporting daily interaction and spiritual reflection. Its simple and peaceful atmosphere encourages both quiet devotion and shared community life.
